Step 1: Set Up a Conversion Event for Lead Generation
Log into Google Analytics.
Go to your Google Analytics 4 account.
Go to the Events Section.
Navigate to the Configure tab and select Events.
Create a New Event.
Click Create event, then click Create to start a custom event.
Configure the Custom Event.
Set the following details:
Custom event name: Use "generate_lead" (Google's recommended name for lead generation).
Matching conditions:
event_name: equals Page_view
page_location: contains [URL of the thank-you page]
Once done, click Create.
Mark the Event as a Conversion.
Head to the Conversion tab and click New conversion event.
Use the same name “generate_lead” and click Save
Ensure Lead Event is Marked as a Conversion.
Double-check that the “generate_lead” event is marked as a conversion so it appears in the conversion reports.
Step 2: Verify Your Setup in Google Analytics
Install the GA Debugger Chrome Extension.
Download the Google Analytics Debugger Extension.
Turn the plugin ON.
Use DebugView in Google Analytics.
Log into your Google Analytics 4 account and navigate to the Configure tab, then select DebugView.
Test the Lead Conversion.
Go to your website’s sign-up page and complete the lead sign-up process.
In DebugView, you should see the lead conversion event being tracked in real time.
