How to Create a Workflow in Slack: Sample Step-by-Step

Here's a sample workflow you can implement on Slack. This example involves asking new channel members to fill out a form and collecting their submissions into a list. Please note that this is a basic workflow with only a few steps. You can create more complex workflows with additional steps and integrate with third-party applications as needed.

1. Click "Apps"

2. Click Manage

3. Click Browse Apps

4. Click "Workflows"

5. Click "Create a Workflow"

6. Click "Choose an event" to start the workflow

7. On the right hand side, click on “when a person joins a channel”

8. Click channels:

9. Select the channel you want

11. Click continue

12. Click "Add steps"

13. Click "Messages"

14. Click “send a message to a channel”:

15. Select a channel where you want to send the message

16. Click "Add a message"

17. Type the message you would like to send

18. Click "Include a button."

19. Set the button label

20. Click "Save". You’re done with the second step of your workflow!

21. To continue, select another step on the right hand side of the screen. This time, we’re selecting “forms”

22. Click on “collect info in a form”

23. Rename the form

24. Click "Add Question"

25. Put in the first question you like, select the question type and description. You also have an option to make this as a required question.

26. At this point, you can either click done or you can add another question.

27. Once you’re done, click on “done”

28. Click "Save"

29. In this part, Slack suggested another step, to choose where you’d like to save the form responses. You can select either.

30. Search for the list

31. Select the list you’d like to put the responses in

32. Click "Save"

33. Once you’re done with all the steps of the workflow you’re building, you can select “finish up”

34. When finishing up, you may rename your workflow, put a description, upload an image, select a workflow manager, and even select the audience who can see and copy the workflow.

35. Click "Publish"

36. Click "Done"
