Setting Up Your Slack Profile
Profile Picture and Information
Upload a clear, professional profile picture.
Fill in your profile information accurately, including your full name, job title, and contact information.
To set up your slack profile,
1. Click on the icon on the lower left hand corner of the application.

2. Click on “Profile”

3. The options would appear on the right hand side of the application. Here, you can upload your photo

4. You can edit your personal information

5. You can update your full name, display name, your title, add your name recording, add your name pronunciation, and then your time zone.


6. Click "Save Changes"

7. You can also update your contact information
8. You can also update your ‘about me’ information, and put your start date and other information you’d like to share.

Joining Channels
Finding Channels
Use the search bar to find relevant channels.
Join channels that are pertinent to your department and projects.
Channel Etiquette
Read the channel description and pinned messages to understand the channel's purpose.
Follow any specific guidelines set for each channel.
To find and join a channel, you can check the left side of the navigation bar to see the channels
1. Click "general"

Sending Messages
Direct Messages (DMs)
Use DMs for private or one-on-one conversations.
Keep messages concise and to the point.
Channel Messages
Post messages in relevant channels for team-wide or project-related discussions.
Use @mentions to tag individuals or groups when necessary.
Message Formatting
Use threads to keep conversations organized.
Utilize formatting options (bold, italics, bullet points) to enhance readability.
To send and see your direct messages,
Click on the drop down beside direct messages

Select on the person you’d like to message

You may also select the person from a channel and send them a message from there, or search for their name in the search bar.
Managing Notifications
Notification Settings
Customize your notification preferences in Slack settings.
Enable notifications for important channels and mute those that are less critical.
To adjust your notification settings,
Select on the icon on the left hand corner of the application, then click on “preferences”

Here, you can adjust your settings.

Sharing Files and Links
Uploading Files
Use the paperclip icon to upload files directly into a chat or channel.
Ensure files are named appropriately and organized in relevant channels.
Sharing Links
Paste links directly into messages.
Add context or description to links to provide clarity.
